A huge hello to all those who read our vox blog as well as this feed embedded in our website and myspace and facebook etc :o)).
It has been a while, has it not...? Not through laziness and not through a lack of love for my blog - just been stupidly bust chasing my tail all day every day for over a month......let me explain......
Every year, Si, my business partner, goes to Italy on hols for anything between 3 and 5 weeks - this year was about 4 and he also got married while he was out there to the lovely Maria - so sincere congratulations to Mr and Mrs Reeves. however, this left me with me.....and some supposed help - which would only materialise, and only sometimes at that, for money - which is only to be expected - after all we need to make our way and pay our bills. But....I have been up to my proverbials in it.
So, Si is back, this is what has been happening....
Rehearsal room 4 is sooo nearly completely finished....but was so in demand it is already being used as Police B*****d prepare to go on tour.
We have recorded and mixed and mastered (for free!!) 4 more bands in the last 4 weeks for radio broadcast and have several more interviews lined up.
Mike - our graduate producer, continues to cut his teeth on several new projects and we feel he is going to be a real asset in times ahead.
We have been working on TV audio for Race TV - many thanks to Nick
We have been working on corporate audio and are soon to start filming modular teaching videos.
We have just finished recording new material for Skull Fox, the Yipes, A Shot in the Dark, Zanzibar, Police Ba****d, Beechwood and many many more...bless you all for using us!! From acoustic bliss to some of the most vitreolic metal I have ever heard - excellent :o))).
We are about to start mastering an album for a recently found local producer called Elliot - watch this space - really excellent work.
A big hi to Strikes - our first Grime artist - see you again soon - really top tunes.
I have been on WCR fm for an interview with the Unsigned Show hosted by Katy Jay and may have a 2 hour special of my own coming up in the future. Loads of love goes out to Katy and Steve Morris (Station Manager) for the continued mutual support.
2009 will see a few changes coming up at our creative playground - watch this space cos these will get more frequent and some small and big changes are afoot.

Sorry folks - due to a change in capacity regs just enforced at the Little Civic...
1. We have had to move it to the Varsity just up the road. We were headed for the Civic Bar but McFly have it booked out!! :O))
2. Other gigs we will have to play by ear (sorry and the Sinatras, OSOT etc).
3. Wolves may be in danger of losing its most beloved indie band venue cos its passageway was 1 1/2" too narrow.
So...NOT the Little Civic's fault - a venue that has almost single-handedly been the champions of unsigned bands in wolves since I can remember - but VARSITY on Sunday folks :o)
NOW AT THE VARSITY!!!
The Cubans have recorded a new AA single which will be released on iTunes and hard copy to coincide with their headline gig at the Wulfrun on 7th March.
The following week sees their rescheduled BBC Radio Introducing.... slot - so listen up...
The songs were recorded at Framework Studios (at Musoplex) by Si Reeves
All of the Cubans' back catalogue can now be found on iTunes.
Here is a taste of what is coming your way soon....
Over the next week the Cubans will be recording a new AA single with Head Producer Si Reeves at Framework Studios - part of the Musoplex family of music lovers.
Please Don't Start Again is in a style that has got them recognised across the Midlands and beyond as a distinctive indie band that stands head and shoulders above the crowd.
Face to Face will see a slightly heavier leaning with a departure from other material and a bass-driven monster-beat of a song that has been the star of recent live performances.
The success of the last single (now sold out on hard copy but available on iTunes) and the remastered album of earlier work saw them sell out the Little Civic in Dec 2008 and get a joint headline in March 2009 (7th!!) with the legendary reformed Bluetones.
The new single will be released in time for their biggest gig to date but just so you know what you might miss - the review from the Little Civic....
The rise continues...
RYANS GIG GUIDE - ISSUE JAN 09 - REVIEW "LITTLE CIVIC GIG"
"Early on it was clear to see why they are called The Cubans. The Latin feel to the music, combined with some harder guitar riffs was a unique sound base which instantly draws you to them. Song titles, such as ‘Ron’s last Act’ and ‘Women Tennis’ are especially quirky, and apparently the latter is best not questioned! During the 45 minute set, the band treated us to a first live hearing of new track ‘Flow’ with quick fire vocals and an addictive bass line. Most enjoyable and reflective of range was ‘I Don’t Want To Know’ which had the big boned man in front of me waggling stuff I didn’t need to see, and the whole room bouncing happily. There is a cultural feel to their verses, flattered by catchy choruses and an eclectic mix of influences to ensure each track is different. On stage, the band play as a solid unit, with a clear respect for each other’s input and space. There was great movement by the band and some of the gutsiest bass playing I’ve heard in years. They looked comfortable on stage with a performance that reflected their touring experience, whilst showing no arrogance. Many bands brag to love what they do, but few prove it so intensely. This band is not to be missed!
The culinary delights from Mr Sizzle brought my evening to an end, with The Cuban’s excellence still ringing in my ears. There were many surprises and I give thanks to whoever it was that recommended The Cubans to me. Breaking news is that they are set to headline at The Wulfrun in March, so there’s an opportunity for you, but don’t leave it too late as this band have a reputation for selling out wherever they play. I’ll be front row with my glow sticks."©Meriel Flavell 2008
....well we demanded they come back so we have booked them to play the Wolves Little Civic on sunday 19th January as part of their near-relentless tour schedule.
Back in bed with Nuventure UK promoters we are really looking forward to having them back.
